Ok but wouldn't it be more DnD to break "race/species" into physical features and culture as separate choices? Hell subraces get within an inch of this anyway before tripping straight onto its whole face.
But I guess the ability to separate physical features from character traits and moral value is just the "not being racist" bit that they're struggling with in the first place.
